From July to October this year, the Ministry of Health will launch a series of “Train provincial trainers combining trials of nutrition training materials” to disseminate the National Nutrition Training Materials Pregnant women and lactating mothers go to medical staff and specialists who are in hospitals across the country.
The guidebook is produced by leading professors and doctors working in the fields of nutrition, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics with the support of scientific research from Abbott Vietnam. This is the first guide to providing local health information and knowledge to physicians, midwives and nurses in the care of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
The National Guide, published in March, is an important step in the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Health and Abbott signed in September 2016 in the ” Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers “to improve the health of women of reproductive age and thereby contribute to raising the stature of Vietnamese people.
The first training course was held in Hanoi from 10th to 13th July with the participation of health workers from Quang Ninh, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau and Bac Kan provinces. The next training courses will be held in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang for health workers and specialists at hospitals under the Ministry of Health and hospitals in 35 provinces.
Many studies have shown that maternal nutrition affects the development of the fetus. Nutrition deficiencies during pregnancy can increase the risk of obstetric complications, low birth weight babies. Nutrition in the breastfeeding stage has a clear impact on the health of the child. However, health workers are still not sufficiently informed, leading to difficulties in advising clients on changing their dietary habits. The National Guidelines on Nutrition for Pregnant Women and Breastfeeding Mothers are compiled and developed to suit Vietnamese people and can be flexibly applied in hospitals across the country.
